10 TOP ACTIVITIES IN SOUTH AFRICA

Game Viewing and Safari

Kruger National Park

Safaris and game viewing in South Africa are as up-close and as it gets. Go on a game drive, a bush walk,or even a horse-ride for an authentic, even life-changing wildlife adventure. If you're looking for a Big Five safari experience in South Africa you can go to almost any province in South Africa, but the Kruger National Park in Mpumalanga and Limpopo provinces remains an iconic tourism draw card. The Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo) abound in the park, and you see them by self-drive, guided game drives or guided walks through the bushveld.

From a night of fine dining to raucous all-night party in a township shebeen (tarven), South Africans love to have a good time. Let your hair down and live it up in our clubs, pubs, late-night bars, theatres and live music venues. You won't just find the best wildlife in our game parks..Come on, the party's starting!

From off-the-beaten-track curio markets filled with collectable handicrafts, to bargain-stuffed flea markets and gliftzy malls in our big cities with the largest must-have name brands, shop-a-holics are spoiled for choice in South AfricaThe quality, cost and variety of goods on offer along with the safe, sophisticated environment provided by South Africa’s shopping centres should not take visiting international holidaymakers and business people by surprise. South Africa's malls are famous for their excellent shopping and entertainment facilities. When you leave the country after your holiday or business trip, you will lament the baggage restrictions of the international airlines and wish that you could take more of South Africa home with you!
We have thousands of miles of glorious coastline, with Blue Flag beach gems dotted along its length. Whether you’re a trendy sun-worshipper, a water sports fanatic, a beach comber or a family seeking sea and fun- South Africa’s got a beach that’s perfect for you.
Visit for the anti-apartheid struggle history and stay for the vibe. Go beyond the history and icons to the warm, welcoming heart of our townships and their residents where determination, innovation and cutting-edge style will surprise, inspire and touch you in ways you never dreamt possible.

However you define adventure, it’s possible in South Africa. We can conjure up your wildest expectation and more: seeing the big five, diving with great white sharks, death defying adventure sports or discovering the humanity and generosity of other cultures. You can get a chance to see the great white sharks. Great white shark conservation was pioneered in South Africa, the first country to declare this toothy predator a protected species. Perceptions have altered over the past two decades. Most adventure tourists don’t consider their trip complete until they have seen a shark, usually at Gansbaai in the Western Cape.

Let the good times roll! Go back to gold rush days at Gold Reef City, play the little Mermaid (or Captain Hook!) at uShaka Marine World and test your water prowess at the valley of the waves in Sun City. Our fun-packed theme parks across the country will keep the smile on your face for days.  The Gold Reef City theme park, located in central Johannesburg, is built around an authentic 19th century gold mine, and brings together fascinating historical attractions with some of the most thrilling rides in the southern hemisphere. For a day of frenetic family fun, it cannot be beat.

Bet on having a good time around South Africa. From slick gaming sports for high-rollers to family seaside entertainment venues, and our most famous casino, Sun City, in the crate of an ancient volcano- we’ve myriad casinos where you can take chance with Lady Luck. South African casinos, including several large entertainment complexes, can be found countrywide. These entertainment destinations are typically designed around a specific theme and include a large range of activities for the whole family. Many are also geared towards business tourism, providing hotels and conferencing facilities as well.

Ride them, feed them, and learn about them- who knew that big bird in the Little Karoo could be so much fun! We don’t think you’ll get your new long-necked friend through customs, though- so opt for an egg shell, leather goods or some bright feathers as a memento of your Oudsthoorn ostrich adventure. Ostriches in the Western Cape are big business. The birds are farmed for their feathers, skin and lean meat, which is exported all over the world, while their eggs are used for decorative purposes. Ostrich farms also attract tourists to the area, anchoring an industry and providing employment.

Where better to get sporty? We’ve got fabulous weather almost all year round, historic playing fields and state-of-the-art new stadiums. We’re pros at BIG sporting events. The crowds are passionate and the atmosphere’s electric. Sport and South Africa are intricately intertwined. In our country, sport is something of a religion, and no matter what our differences are, we all worship at the sporting altar.

A CULTURAL EXPERIENCE IN SOUTH AFRICAN TOWNSHIPS

                                                                                     Soweto Township

South Africa's townships are infused with the spirit of ubuntu, which means: ‘I am, because we are’. A term for neighborliness, and a proudly South African humanist philosophy, it is a wisdom widely embraced by all South Africans today. Take a township tour and experience the spirit of togetherness and unity among its people.

Welcome to the real South Africa. The townships of South Africa are the place where the heart of the nation beats.

While the plusher surburbs have more of a polished venner, and may serve up more in a way of consumer conveniences, it’s the townships in South Africa where you discover the emotional connection, the conviviality and the sense of friendship that underpins South Africa’s working class.

The townships in South Africa were designed as fortresses of apartheid control, a malicious and deliberate use of urban planning to alienate communities.

Post-apartheid, shacks are being replaced by government subsidised houses, hostels are being carved up into proper family quarters, roads are continuously being tarred, and basic services are slowly being installed.

Don’t visit South African townships on your own steam. Often road signs are absent and maps can be confusing, so we advise you to consult professional tour companies that specialise in township tours, including transport to and from the townships.

Townships in Johannesburg such as Soweto and Alexandra are the country’s most famous and historically rich townships, and Pretoria’s townships such as Mamelodi and Soshanguve are both jazz strongholds. Not forgetting Cape Town’s townships like Khayelitsha and Langa where the late Brenda Fassies, the country’s queen of pop was born.

Go on a tavern crawl, where you can dance till breathless to the tune of jazzy African rhythms and imbibe traditional Zulu tipple, sorghum home-brewed beer. Try chisa’nyama, meat braid or cooked over an open fire on an outside pavement.

THE 2008 MEGAFEST INTERNATIONAL EVENT IN SOUTH AFRICA

Bishop TD Jakes during MegaFest International event
The 2008 MegaFest International event by Bishop TD Jakes took place in Johannesburg at Nasrec Expo Centre on the 11 and 12 October 2008. The Nasrec Expo Centre is the South African largest exhibitions, conference and event site where Mount Zion Tours and Travels (PTY) Ltd (MZTT) was given an opportunity to become one of the service providers with shuttle services to transport over 4000 Americans visiting Johannesburg from October to 20 October 2008.

TD Jakes’s MegaFest festival started in Atlanta in 2004, within three years, it had grown into one of the most widely attended religious events in America, as well as one of the largest gatherings of African-Americans.  In 2008 Bishop TD Jakes decided to take MegaFest international event to South Africa for the first time to give Americans the chance to know Africa. The economic impact of MegaFest international event on the city was enormous.

MZTT contributed to the event with shuttle services to transport the visitors from their located venues to the event and other destinations including public schools, public hospitals and orphanage homes. The visitors also went to places like Soweto, Joburg Apartheid Museum, Lesedi Cultural Village, Sterkefontein Caves ,Maropeng Lodge, Rhino and Lion Park.

"The event itself was aimed at giving back to the community," according to Lumka Dlomo, the business tourism executive at the Johannesburg Tourism Company (JTC).
As part of giving back to the community, most of the American visitors went to the public schools to teach learners while those who were visiting at the hospitals and orphanage homes were giving away free food and clothes.

Most of the visitors were allocated in different hotels in Sandton including Michelangelo Hotel and Towers, InterContinental Hotel hotel, Da Vinci Hotel, Sandton Sun Hotel, Balalaika Hotel and Garden Court Sandton.

TD Jakes commented: “the MegaFest International 2008 chose Johannesburg as its first international host destination outside the United State because the city, as the largest and most crowded city area in the country, is rich and boasts the largest economy of any city region in sub-Saharan Africa. In addition to traditional MegaFest activities, this year’s event will include African excursions, health and wellness events, and opportunities to learn about rich heritage of South Africa.’’

Mr Willy Kalala, CEO of Mount Zion Tours and Travels (PTY) Ltd commented : I was pleased with the logistics because everything was well organized even Balalaika Hotel offered us a room which was used as a nerve centre to coordinate the operation.’’
